August Openings
Bol
Bol, a pan-Mediterranean restaurant, opened its doors on July 1 at 1875 Central Ave. Founded by Saber Seraj, who draws from his Afghan heritage, Bol offers a unique twist on Mediterranean cuisine. Described as “Chipotle but with Mediterranean ingredients,” the restaurant emphasizes family recipes and fresh preparations.
The Wild Horse
Located on Caroline Street in Saratoga Springs, The Wild Horse has started serving drinks and hosting live music on its patio. Full dinner service is expected to launch later in August, promising an inviting atmosphere for both locals and visitors.
La Perla Italian Restaurant
After a brief six-week transition period, La Perla at the Gregory House Country Inn in Averill Park has reopened. This beloved spot continues to serve traditional Italian cuisine, welcoming back loyal patrons.
Coming Soon
Blackbirds Tavern
After three years of development, Blackbirds Tavern is set to open in Voorheesville, managed by Druthers Brewing Co. Expect a mid-October launch that will add to the local dining landscape.
605Smash
A new restaurant called 605Smash will take over the space once occupied by Ralph’s Tavern in Albany. This establishment is a spinoff of Restaurant 605 and is anticipated to open around Labor Day, bringing fresh dining options to the area.
August Closures
Finnigan’s on the Lake
Finnigan’s on the Lake in Ballston Lake has closed its doors after less than three years. Chef-owner Matt Finnigan cited health concerns following multiple health challenges as the reason for this difficult decision.
Modena
The contemporary Italian restaurant Modena in Greenville has closed after about 14 months. While the closure was initially described as indefinite, it now appears to be permanent.
Hong Kong Bakery & Bistro
A local favorite for Chinese pastries and dim sum, Hong Kong Bakery & Bistro has closed after 11 years on Wolf Road in Colonie and 21 years in various locations.
Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub
The Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub on Wolf Road in Colonie served its last meal on August 11.
Buca di Beppo
Also on Wolf Road, Buca di Beppo has closed after a lengthy 24-year run, marking the end of an era for this Italian chain.
September Openings
Daisies Pasteles
A new Mexican bakery, Daisies Pasteles, has opened on Madison Avenue in Albany, offering an array of traditional baked goods.
Suwun Thai Home Cooking
Suwun Thai Home Cooking has arrived in Albany, run by a Thai-born chef whose family has a long history in the restaurant industry.
Umi Sushi & Seafood Buffet

Albany is set to welcome Itameshi, the region’s first Japanese-Italian fusion restaurant, planned for a winter opening.
BMT Hospitality Expansions
BMT Hospitality is developing new locations for Junior’s Bar & Grill and Cafe Madison in East Greenbush, with an expected opening in late spring or early summer 2025.
